How it works
Over time, the water inside a waterbed naturally changes. AquaBio® introduces a carefully selected concentration of naturally occurring microorganisms that establish a healthy biological balance within the water mattress.
Rather than interfering with the natural microbiological processes, AquaBio® helps create conditions that minimise the accumulation of air and other gases inside the mattress. The microorganisms do not inhibit or eliminate other bacteria and do not act as a disinfectant or biocide.
The product contains a bacterial strain classified as Risk Group 1 (RG1) according to the German Technical Rules for Biological Agents (TRBA). This is the lowest risk classification and includes microorganisms commonly found in drinking water.

AquaBio® was developed in cooperation with researchers at Wageningen University & Research (The Netherlands) and AquaMetrica. The result is a biological alternative to traditional chemical conditioners, providing effective long-term waterbed care without the use of aggressive chemicals.

Important
After switching to the AquaBio® biological system, do not add chemical waterbed products, such as fragrances, air binders or chemical conditioners, as these may interfere with the biological balance.
Switching from chemical conditioners
When converting an existing waterbed from a chemical conditioner to AquaBio®, the following procedure is recommended:
- Ensure that at least 2 months have passed since the last chemical conditioner was added.
- Add one bottle per water mattress (two bottles for a double bed).
- Draining the water mattress is not necessary.
Once the conversion has been completed, simply maintain the waterbed by adding one bottle of AquaBio® Waterbed Conditioner every 6 or 12 months, depending on the size of the water mattress.

In order to maintain a good water quality in waterbeds periodical usage of effective waterbed conditioner is advised. As for now the existing regular waterbed conditioners contain chemicals disinfectants having the active component Quat (Alkylbenzyldimenthylammoniumchloride).
Insufficiency of Chemical Waterbed conditioner
From the point of view of scientific research it has been proven that the current chemical waterbedconditioner (Quat) is insufficient. European laws and regulations regarding disinfectants have been revised strongly. Stricter norms have been introduced in the field of environmental protection and the general quality of municipal water has been improved. The chemical waterbed conditioner do pollute the environment.
Our biologic waterbed conditioner AquaBio activates alternative water treatment methods by addding a large number of water filtering micro organisms. The used micro-organism belongs th the risc category 1 ( according to TRBA) which mean it falls under the most innocent micro organisms applicable safely by consumers. On a new mattress please put in one bottle at start of filling the mattress and another bottle at end of filling. There after one bottle every 12 months.
For customers that have been using chemical conditioner like Blue Magic – there needs to be a gap of 6 weeks between the last bottle of chemical conditioner before adding any of the new Biological conditioner. When they use the Biological conditioner for the first time – the Manufacturer recommends adding 1 bottle of the 140ml Super Conditioner to start with and then after a 2 week period to then add 1 more bottle and then add 1 bottle every 12 months.

- Can AquaBio biological waterbed conditioner be used in a waterbed where a chemical waterbed conditioner has already been used?
Yes, AquaBio can also work in a waterbed when the chemical conditioner has stopped working – so wait until the chemical conditioner has stopped working, this should take about a month. Then, without refilling the bed, you add AquaBio’s organic waterbed conditioner.
- How do I maintain my waterbed?
In a waterbed, a biological waterbed conditioner (AquaBio) should be added regularly to prevent air problems. In addition, unlike ordinary mattresses, a water bed does not allow perspiration or other substances such as mites, skin scales, bacteria and fungi. This has the advantage that a waterbed is often more hygienic. A water mattress has a detachable cover, which is easy to wash. The duvet must be left open for at least 2 hours each day so that the perspiration moisture can evaporate from the cover and the cover. You also need to clean the vinyl every 3 months with a special cleaning agent such as AquaBio’s ecological vinyl cleaner.
- I bought a bottle of conditioner stating that it is biodegradable.
